Lord of the Rings Box Set on Blu-ray???

What I would really like to see is the Lord of the Rings come out on Blu-ray. I have the DVD set, but if the set came out on Blu-ray I would definitely purchase it.
Has anyone heard any rumours?
Another BD that would interest me would be the Opening Ceremonies of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

I thought that was supposed to come out on HD DVD... It was all the talk...!
My point is considering all the hype over that one would think they at least did the HD telecine capture and maybe even final mastering but fizzled out due to a loss of confidence in the long term future of the format, IE it may be ready to go and it is just a matter of pulling the trigger!

That's great news ... if they do a good transfer I will definitely purchase the set of 3 movies.

Great! First I purcahsed the original, then they came out with the extended version. Wasn't there a third? Now Blu-Ray. Maybe you should hold off until they do a 3D blu ray.

The release patterns for Blu Ray titles defies taste and logic. Quality and classic films are in the minority. Of course, you can get
all the trash films [Saw I-III] and all the imbecilic [Aliens Vs. Predator], not to mention titles formerly available in the competing Toshiba
hd format. Don't hold your breath for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. I'm glad I captured it in hd when it made the rounds of pay tv.....
It's interesting that UK Blu Ray releases don't cater to the lowest IQ's of viewing public [i.e. Ingmar Bergman films, classics from the British
Film Institute, etc.]

I don't think the releases defy logic - quality is secondary to a crowd with $ in their hands. Judging from one of my kids, Saw was a hot series. and yes, daddy did get her a Blu-Ray. I will agree that overall there does not even seem to be a large audience with $ logic either though....there are lots of releases I thought were completely off the mark in popularity and quality of content. Like Aeon Flux....which as light as it is, I happen to love it for it's overall eye candy. (maybe it is more popular than I think).
Also I am going to guess that anything done for HD-DVD was already ready + new menu work, for Blu-Ray. Proabably a bargain to dump out on the market.

I believe u're right. Look, some time ago Star Wars: The Phantom Menace 3d and Blu-Ray versions were released. 3d is ok cuz it'd be like some kind of new experience to watch it in 3d but the Blu-Ray version is released for only one purpose-to help us to empty our wallets. I think, same corresponds to the LOTR trilogy...as it was said above, don't hold you breath for the LOTR trilogy on Blu-Ray.
