What is the difference between Sony BDP-S350 and BDP-S300 Blu-ray? What is BD-Live? And what is profile 2.0?

I'm not sure what the specific differences are in the tow different players, but I would guess that the new one supports profile 2.0, whereas the other only supported profile 1.1. Richard can probably confirm/deny this assumption.

Regarding your other questions, "profile 2.0" and "BD-Live" are one in the same. In order to avoid confusion, Sony chose to start referring to profile 1.1 as "Bonus View" and profile 2.0 as "BD Live". Specifically (if memory serves), "Bonus View/Profile 1.1" allowed for embedded video streams and extra "bonus" content features. And "BD Live/Profile 2.0" allows for interactivity and access to online content via integrated internet connection on the player.

I hope I'm remembering that right ... Richard?

Thanks Shane. I am considering getting a Blu-ray in the next couple of months and I'm wondering if I need the newer model or whether I'm just as well off to try to get the older one on clearance. Another thing I have heard is that the S300 is very slow loading. I have no idea how long is slow and what the S350 may do for that issue.

Shane, thanks for showing how silly complex Blu-ray can be but ya, those are my thoughts...

The big debate is 1st and 2nd gen players being outdated by 2.0 and so far the word has been only the PS3 had it. I don't think the BDP-S300 will be able to support it or it would have been mentioned by now.

As for loading times figure about 2 minutes and it will vary with what kind of content is on the disc. Only the PS3 compares to DVD for loading times. Hopefully these new players will load as favorably.

My understanding is this is all about special features, not the movie, so if you buy the 300 with that caveat in mind it should cover your needs.
