I believe the early Mits series required the special Mits HD-1080 receiver to utilize the HD capability of the set. If the back panel has a "H" and "V" jack then a horizontal and vertical sync signal is required, otherwise you will see variations of a green bar or bars, sometimes scrolling. The H and V signals are supplied by the HD1080 receiver. These receivers are sometimes available on E-bay or Craigslist. Hope this helps!

I believe the early Mits series required the special Mits HD-1080 receiver to utilize the HD capability of the set.
For 1998 and 1999 they required RGBHV connections to use the HD 1080i scan rate - component was not allowed. Any product that supports RGBHV outputs can be used but those will also be of the same age/time frame up to about 2002...

I tried switching from RGB to YPrPb but no luck when the component cables are connected. I still get the scrolling green lines on the screen. I tried switching the output resolution on the HD receiver to 480p, 480i, 720p, and 1080i and all yield the same results. I also tried switching to YPrPb before the cables are connected but once I hook them up it switches to RGB again. The tv set does have H and V inputs but I thought those were only for RGB type connections. Maybe I do need that extra receiver to use the HD capability of the set but I find it strange that it is not mentioned in the manual for the TV. The set was bought about five years ago so would it still need that extra receiver?? I plan on messing around with it all day tomorrow so I'll keep you guys updated.

Problem Fixed

The model is the WS-55807 and I finally got it to work by going to the service menu and switching from 1080i to auto for the DTV input. The solution was over in this thread for any other people that might have the problem http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/showthread.php?t=16718
Thanks to you guys for all your help.

Switching circuit

It sounds like the switching circuit on the component input has gone bad. The menu sends a signal to a switch that also it to switch the circuit from RGB w/ HV to the Y/Pr/Pb for component video that is used now for analog HD. It will take a service tech to fix that and probably parts from Mits as well. In the process if you use a company that does the ISF calibration they might cut a bit off the over all bill for doing all the work.

edgecrusher,

Thanks for the model. Your TV should not have had that problem because it comes from the factory preset for auto. There is a trick in the service manual to force 1080i on the DTV input so the convergence can be aligned without an HD source to trigger that scan rate and that is the trick; set it for 1080i. The manual also tells the tech to switch it back so you don't have the problem you had...
After adjusting Convergence, be sure to set the DTV Port back to AUTO.
Whoops... glad to hear you got it working again!

How do you access the service screen? I still haven't had my TV fixed. It's out of warantee and they charge an arm and a leg to come out and fix it. I don't have the switching problem but I just wanted to look though the service menu.

Thanks

If you don't need to be in there then I recommend you stay out since you can wreck your TV in there as well... from edgecrusher's last post

Yeah, I saw that thread and it says press (edit)...but that didn't work. Hence, my previous question. How do I acces the service menu?

Thanks
