How to Control PlayStation 3 with IR

I bought playstation 3 20gb at WalMart. The picture is better then my HD-DVD.
It's response time is much quicker. My only concern was the sound output.
It has optical digital, but to get the better sound it doesn't have individual
channel outputs.

For best sound I would go HDMI...I thought the whole world had a HDMI receiver by now!...

IF you have an old receiver like I do (Onkyo TX-sr600) you will need to hook up your PS3 to the tv via HDMI and then the digital out put form PS3 to the receiver you will have to make sure what channel you are hooking up since you have several choices

Call me a gluton for punishment, A PS3 60GB for $600 was just purchased! Sure hope they get the Bluray lock up problem figured out sooner rather than later...

How do you know that? And how about skips and stutters?

Also, I see from the picture of rear connections that this player also has 5.1 analog outs for those of US that don't have HDMI receivers. So it should put out the big sound through those. Of course, for $1500 it should burn Blu-ray discs, shovel the snow, and take the babysitter home.

I am also a member over at avsforums....and there a quite a few folks over there that already own the Pioneer Blu-ray player. So far it is the most trouble free player to date. Every player has it's minor faults, but the Panasonic and the Pioneer are the best offerings to date. The Pioneer plays 1080P/24 out through HDMI as does the Sony....But the Sony has lock up problems. I have owned every single player exept the Pioneer...So I know from my own experiences what faults each player has. I want the 1080P/24 and also want the ethernet port, so the Pioneer is the way to go...You can buy the Pioneer for 1199.99 over at www.valueelectronics.com ...

Sooooo, I buy a PS3 and it has lock-up problems as well as no 720P

I get 720P...

Richard...I am talking about 5.1 PCM on a 7.1 HDMI audio system. The PS3 and the Panny will allow a receiver such as the VSX-84TXsi to add the PCM + modes for the rear channel speakers...(such as PCM + PLII X MV) < this also can show up as "MUSICMODE"...The Sony and the Pioneer don't!.

As far as your PS3 goes, you are "not" getting 720P...check the signal that shows up on the projector you will see. The PS3 cannot output 720P even though it looks like it in the audio menu...There is a whole thread dedicated to this over at AVS...I thought I was getting 720P too...But when I checked my projector it was outputing 480P even though the PS3 menu said it was set to 720P..."trust me"... The best you can do is set the PS3 to 1080i and let the projector down scale to 720P...or set it to 1080P if you have a 1080P display.
