I was just looking at my speaker specs and they are 4-8 ohm outputs which seem strange after reading your explanation. I have the Def Tech Pro Cinema 600 5.1 with the Pioneer vsx-1019 a/v receiver. Do you think there is another receiver that would make the speakers sound better or am I fine with what I’ve got? Thanks

Maybe the owners booklet for your speakers says something different, but the specs on the Def Tech website says 8 ohms-I believe. Which means compatible with 8 ohms. This seems to be a very nice system and I would imagine it sounds very good. If your happy with it, I wouldn't change a thing, especially running 5.1.

With the receiver "rated" for 4 to 8 ohms it should be good to go at its rated power through that range. Being rated for that range they may have a table of power Vs load.
As was stated earlier, some systems are direct drive to the speakers rather than through a transformer. It takes a pretty good amp to dynamically match 4 through 8 ohms.
