That almost brings tears because I don't own one and would love to...
Ahh, I see now. I thought you were talking about your own XA777 in a previous post when in fact you were quoting someone on the tips list. Well, I would love to ask that person about how he does (or does not) take advantage of that player's ability to devote three dacs per channel. I took myself off the tips list because all I was getting were dozens of posts per day about a politcal pissing contest and nothing to do with any HD issues. Have they finished discussing the war in Iraq yet? Maybe I'll go back on.

I guarantee stereo mode and the 3 dacs will either give you a signal on the jacks or it won't - there is no other way it could possibly work. Based on the response it would appear the stereo and a multichannel jacks are interconnected for left/right.

The guy who owns this unit just sent this... (XA777ES)

Seeing your post about "the guys" reminded me that I forgot to answer you
question about Stereo vs Multi-channel with the Sony. Yes you can get
either 2 channel Stereo or 2 Channel SACD with just the 6 -Analog outputs
hooked up to your Controller.

Just reviewed another Panasonic DVD recorder, the new 80, and it has DVD-Audio.

DON'T BE FOOLED!

This is not a good sign...

It says DVD-Audio and it will play the discs but guess what? Only to 24/96 in stereo - there is no multichannel hookup. Anything above that will be down converted to 96/24. I find this to be a bad sign for quality DVD-Audio players and the pursuit of excellence.
