Basically, I'm a Technonerd who's been blessed with success in sales. One thing I quickly learned. You cannot "explain" the details of much of anything to most Americans. The majority of my customers wanted, "something that works!" They DID NOT want explanations.
Now, I'm a pastor. Guess what? The truth described above still holds true. Most people simply want to know, "what works?" As I've re-read this thread I've noticed people talking "past" each other. One person asks, "what works?" and the answer given describes all the technical details so the questioner can decide for themselves. Then they, or another questioner, asks again, "what works?" and the cycle repeats.
I love this site because I've been shown where to find manuals for my cable DVR, helped with my HDTV, etc. Still, probably much of the confusion here would decline if everyone just listened to the other person's question.
"What is HDTV? How do I get it? How will I know it I've gotten the most out of my system? Oh, and by the way, I want to pick your brain at no charge."
Thanks for letting me rant,
Sandy

We all explain "Hype" in our own way.
I didn't see any one talking past any one else. Each is trying to explain what they see as "Hype" in their own way.
The company does have a point in having to resort to "specifically" telling people, "this antenna(s) work on Digital, or worse, HD". Marketing, although bending the truth badly has to do so in many cases as the public "has to know" that the antenna will work for what they want. IOW they place blind faith in the PR spin. As this is a technical board (more or less) I see what I expect and what most of the people reading it understand.
If you want clueless, try my profession...Computer Science. With a very strong science background I take nothing on blind faith and the adds that proclaim something I know is not true, or is bending definitions, I find it a strong turn off. OTOH I realize that many have to be told, and take it on faith the person telling them knows what they are talking about. That is why I think a FAQ would be a good idea. Unfortunately those really needing the information either won't understand it, don't want to make the effort, of don't know how to find it even with a search engine.
BTW, I use two, large UHF antennas for all channels including VHF. They may not be optimum but they get enough signal that my TV set doesn't know if the station is local or not.
