DVD-Audio on the HD-DVD players?

Dear Richard,
I have heard this before. I read that one had to hook-up each speaker individually with RCA jacks and unplug any hdmi connections and then you should be able to listen to true analog DVD-Audio tracks.
Do you know if this is true?
And How about Blu-rays with SD-DVDoor DVD- Audio.
Richard wrote:The HD DVD players do not support DVD Audio. All DVD Audio discs include a DD and/or DTS SD audio track - that's what you heard. ALL DVD players can play those tracks, nothing special required...

Mr. Novak--
Hd players and Blu Ray players do not have the decoding chipsets for playing DVD-A. You will need one of the OPPO players and if you have a considerable library of SD DVD's get the new OPPO DV-983HD @ $399, which has the best chipsets and circuitry for playing SD DVD's and it also p-lays SACD's and DVD-A's. Obviously there are other universal SD players that play SACD and DVD-A, but the OPPO players are the best at their price and the top of the line DV-983HD is the best regardless of priice.

fpnovak, not sure what you are referring to but Greg is correct. Neither of these products support DVD-Audio codecs. All support the SD video and audio that naturally comes with all DVD Audio discs and since it works, you get sound, is often times interpreted as being DVD Audio when it is not.

60GB PS3 as CD/SACD Player

My 60 GB PS3 has been updated to v. 2.30 and is connected to my Yamaha HTR-6090 via HDMI. I believe that I have selected all relevant audio options in the PS3 set up menu, with BDs playing flawlessly in all supported codecs. However, I fail to get ANY sound from either CDs or SACDs, although the PS3 indicates that the discs are playing (showing track and elapsed time). Although this is no big thing, as I continue to use a Denon universal DVD player for CDs, SACDs (6 channel analog outs) and SD DVDs (at 480i out which is ultimately upconverted to 1080p via a DVDO VP50), I would like to understand the reason for this apparent lack of support for CD/SACD on the part of the PS3/HDMI. Thanks for any help that can be provided.
PS3 SACD Playback

Hi everyone. I don't know if this has been mentioned but for SACD on the PS3 you need to make some changes in Setup. In "Settings" you need to go to "System Settings" "Disc Auto Start" and turn off. Then when you put in a disc you will be given the choice of Multi Channel Super Audio, Two Channel Super Audio, or Audio CD. This way you can select the layer you want and you will know what you are hearing. Connect using HDMI and use PCM for the best audio on the DVD's DD HD and DTS HD Maser Audio with the latest software update. Great Listening!
