Sheldon...Which replacement model did you end up getting? I want to make sure I get the matching base if I do end up getting a replacement (the new TVs look black...the old ones, including the old bases, are silver).
Thanks for keeping us updated (and hopeful!).

Cheryl:
I got their latest Diamond Series model WD-73833, and you are correct about the stand/trim. The new TV is gloss black trim and my stand for the old model is silver. The rep from Mitsu offered to have a new stand "built" for me if the TV did not fit it, but we didn't discuss the fact that it may not match. That's a minor point though..silver and black go together. I won't be terribly upset if they won't match the stand. I was told that the TV is so new they do not yet have the stands made but they would direct me to the company that makes them and have one made. I'm not sure if I want to attempt to contact the rep at Mitsu again. That means going through their call center....and we all know what that amounts to!!!
In any event, I'm just happy to have a TV again after 4 months+.

I had searched online and found black stands that go with the TV (I'm thinking the person you talked to was incorrect).
The Matching Base is: MB-73PB. Do a search for it. Here's one link:

In reading the description, it does not list the 73833, but does show the 73733. The 738 model is the '08 model. The "footprint" is different than my old set, but the new one does still fit on it. The new model that I got is also thinner than the old (I believe)...
Thank you for the info/link.

Mitsubishi DLP 06 - Failed light engine

Thank you Sheldon and all that have posted about this problem. I was a millisecond away from purchasing a Mit 73833 at Frys ($2799), but after reading all these posts there is no way I'm purchasing any Mit tv. It's one thing for a component to be defective but the treatment that you have received from Mitsubishi tells me that this is a company I want to stay away from. It's back to Sony for now. Thanks all.

Glad you read the posts first. Until Mitsu realizes, understands, and greatly improves their customer service I totally agree with your decision. I believe that everyone is aware that at some point in time, an electronic device, such as a TV, will have issues. Either defective parts, or whatever......
The real test comes in the form of how the manufacturer treats its customers after the fact. Mitsu has failed at that miserably.

Mikro, I agree...
One thing to note is these issues are all with '06 model TVs. I would hope they have been resolved w/ the newer models.
Richard had mentioned in another post that the light engines do in fact differ - so that could be promising news to consumers.
However, your choice to stay away from Mistu is warranted given the ongoing issues w/ some of their models and their horrible level of customer service. Doing your research first is always a good thing! I did the same but did not find the light engine issues until after my purchase - my bad.
On a separate note, I have yet to hear any news on my replacement TV since Dec. 28th. At that time, they said within 2 weeks of the new year.
But, no news as of this writing.
I'll keep you posted.

Mitusubishi Replacing Our TV

I just got a call from the store we purchased our Mitsubishi from and have been told they are replacing it (and the stand) with the WD-73734 version (not the WD-73833 that Sheldon got...but better than nothing).
The manager I spoke with told me that Mitsubishi would only give them credit equal to the WD-73734. He argued that we originally purchased a Diamond Series 73-incher but they would not budge. Had we bought the store's "insurance/warranty" the store would have upgraded us to the WD-73833 as a replacement.
The manager told me that the WD-73734 model is a lot better than the original WD-73927 Diamond Series we purchased. He also told me that he, as a manager at an electronics store, ALWAYS buys insurance on TVs because of all the problems he sees coming into his store. He also predicts that DLP technology will be obsolete in 3 years and that LCD and Plasma will be the standard. The downsides with LCD and Plasma, in his experience, is that once they break, they are unfixable.
Our new TV and Stand will arrive tomorrow morning

Cheryl:
Congratulations..!!......A question for you though...(don't want to read through 8 pages of posts!!):
how old is your set? Even if it's an '05, in my opinion I think that Mitsu owes you a "like" set...i.e.: diamond vision for diamond vision......
Please.....don't settle on less than that just to get this over and done with. An "extended" warranty on a factory recall and subsequent factory warranty extension due to defective and unavailable parts has absolutely nothing to do with this....rethink your decision.
If that's what you are set on that's fine....and Congrat's are still in order!!!!!
