Everybody be mindful re a possible/probable bug in the Onkyo TX-NR809 AVR re HQV video processing which may infect the other new Onk offerings as well as the parallel Integra line. I have the 809 which is basically = 50.2.
The user is prevented from setting the HDMI Output, global resolution to the native input resolution of the user's display.
There's a bit more to this but there is no way to tell the Onkyo's firmware to fix its HDMI Main output to, for example, 720p. Or if you have a legacy RPTV with HDFury, to 1080i. In the main Set-up menu under Monitor Out, just try to change "Resolution" to anything, and I mean anything. No change. Always hard-coded to 1080p. User input ignored. I have a cheap LCD with HDMI input as my "probe" since everything on my Mits 65819 looks like scrambled hash. That's how I know this. I ask the cheap LCD what it is seeing.
Ah, here's a good example of the Bug. Select Radio, listen to some FM but just try to get the Onk to display the Radio menu for you in a res anything other than 1080p. Impossible. Won't do it. Try as you like. Bug.
