Panasonic Viera 40" Plasma - $599

akirby Mon Sep 21, 2009 5:47 am

My wife has been contemplating replacing her old 27" Mits CRT in her sitting room, so I was prepared to buy a 32" LCD and was just waiting for the prices to come down. Found several under $500 and was ready to buy until she saw a 40" LG Plasma at Frys for $550. She liked the picture and glare isn't an issue in her room. After doing some more research I found a 40" Panasonic Viera plasma (all 1366x768 of course) at Best Buy for $599. Then we went to Costco and found the same Panasonic for $599 but with a 2 year warranty. That's a pretty good deal if you're looking for a secondary tv.

And most importantly - when Mama is happy everybody's happy!

Amazon has an even better price: $602 incl shipping( and no sales tax)

But does Amazon have a 90 day store return policy and a free 2 year extended warranty? Costco does.

Slight correction - it's a 42" plasma and it's only 1024x768. But my wife could care less and as long as she's happy, I'm happy.

That's a pretty good price, but i'd also check a couple of online auction websites like circuspop (http://www.circuspop.com). I came across this site last week and they have some pretty cool deals on a lot of products. They have an auction running for a Sony lcd last time i checked.

Hi

Might want to bear in mind that the original warranty only comes along w/that set IF Sony considers them to be an authorized dealer .... and, o.k. with a guaranteed, white glove prepaid delivery in the sale, as the cost of freight by an individual is quite different (much higher) than for the Vendors w/ national accounts.

Be careful about the so-called "online price" I did that with my 58" Viera and the company that sold it went out of business and the extended warranty company (Repairtech) were criminals. Costco has a very generous return policy.
