AppleTV

Post by The HT Guys »

When Steve jobs introduced the next generation of AppleTV it took Ara about 30 seconds to decide it was worth buying the device. If for only satisfying his curiosities. So Ara purchased the new AppleTV about a month ago and there it sat until Tuesday of this week. That's because the device is essentially identical to the previous AppleTV but now with a new version of software the AppleTV is a brand new Machine...

AppleTV's 5.1 Dolby Digital surround

Post by GregA »

Most HD movies I browsed through list digital surround... but I didn't look at Transformers (already own it on DVD).

You say that Transformers (High Def) wasn't rented with 5.1 surround?! - if so that's a bit of an oversight from Apple. I've only rented one movie so far (since I have to visit my parents to do it) and the sound and video were superb. Make sure you have the AppleTV connected via HDMI or Optical to get the surround :)

Looking forward to high-def TV show rentals at $1 with digital sound! :)

Hi GregA

The rented movie did have Dolby Digital 5.1. Our ripped version of Transformers only had two channel audio. The 5.1 soundtrack sounded very good. You will be happy with the results.

Have a great day!

Ahh confusion :)

Post by GregA »

Sorry, I did read "AppleTV version" and thought it meant the Apple endorsed download, rather than the version you ripped from DVD.

I did the same thing earlier in the article but noticed it didn't make sense and worked it out. Hope other readers get it :)

Aside from that confusion, great article. Thanks.

ps. as of last Tuesday (a couple of days after your review, unfortunately!), Handbrake now rips DVDs with digital surround
