How big is your living room? Probably not too big for Gefen’s DVI-1600HD. This professional level device is overkill for most residential installations, but it does let you run an HDMI connection farther than you normally can. How does up to two kilometers sound? The system relies on four strands of optic fiber cable. If you need to include HDCP compliance with 1080p resolution, then you’ll be limited to a paltry 1,000 feet.

The system is intended for digital signage applications, and the fiber optic transmission has the advantage of not being affected by electromagnetic interference. The same cables also carry audio and control signals as well.

So unless your living room is the length of three football fields, you probably don’t need this. But isn’t it nice to know that it’s there, just in case?
